This is a great piece of information.I have a Springfield 1911 Loaded series in a 9mm chmabering. Serial number starts with NM.so I have a truly 'American' pistol. Paid $1200 for it 3 years ago.is that a fair price?All the loaded and loaded target 9mm 1911 are 'NMs'. I've seen them go as low as $900 on this site, but you paid a fair price.

Now I'm confused, I remember the letter from Deb, Custom Shop Coordinator of Springfield Armory clarifying the matter in that all their frames and slides came from IMBEL in Brazil.even the Professional frames.the NM serial numbers only designate that more than 50% of the final fitting and machining are completed domestically on that gun.
The difference between the TRP and the Professional are that the Pro's frame and slide are completely machined domestically. Many of the small parts are manufactured domestically.just like most 1911sIf the frames of the higher end 1911s are manufactured domestically, do you know where they are getting them from? The only pistols which use the national match frames are the complete custom pistols built through our custom shop. The 1911's that have the 'Brazil' import marking's on the frame have more than 50% of the work performed by IMBEL, these would have the 'N' prefix. The GI's are also made in Brazil and have the WW prefix.
The Mil-spec model's can have either a N or NM prefix, with the N being more common.Springfield's Loaded models, could either have the N or NM prefix. Model's with the N prefix are imported almost complete with the exception of the sight and beavertail grip safety cut's. These cuts are done at Springfield's facility in Geneseo, IL. The NM prefix Loaded's (as well as the TRP and Trophy Match) have the magwell and most of the internal cuts done, but no rail cuts. The final CNC machining on NM prefixes is done in Illinois.
